“Better to be a warrior in a garden, than a gardener in a war.”

Miyamoto Musashi

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

Frank Herbert

Our Name

We chose our name based on the history of Mount Masada and those who occupied it. It was a stronghold in the first Jewish-Roman War in the late 60s and early 70s AD. A legion of Jewish warriors & assassins, as well as their families, occupied the mountain top and remained autonomous while the rest of the region was subjugated by the Romans.

Aside from being feared and formidable fighters, they were skilled engineers and self sustained in the challenging environment that is an isolated mountain top in the desert. Its occupants designed an intricate cistern and functioning miniature society, while their companions below were forced into slavery and worse.

Despite great efforts, and yielding far superior numbers, the Romans could not penetrate the fortress’ defenses. It was not until they abandoned their honor and used the local Jewish population as human shields were they able to reach Masada’s gate. This was only so because the Sicarii atop the mountain would not hurl arrows and spears into their Jewish brothers and sisters.

At the point of critical mass when the gate was about to come down, all the residents of Masada made a unified decision to die on their feet as free men and woman rather than live in slavery. When the Roman’s entered the compound, to their dismay, the entire population of Masada was deceased.
